When you talk to Jennie Weeks, it doesn’t take a long to hear her passion. DNA is lucky to call Jennie a member because she’s a strong advocate for women in life and finances! Currently a financial advisor, Jennie is enthusiastic about enabling women to understand their options and make informed money decisions. But Jennie’s passion doesn’t stop there, ## years ago, Jennie had her own business in the golfing industry. She launched Golf Fore Gals, a group designed to introduce women to the sport of golf in a comfortable, organized environment. It should be no surprise that Jennie became a DNA member shortly after attending our summer golf tournament in 2010.

In the two years Jennie’s been a DNA member, she’s met a variety of fascinating women she wouldn’t have met otherwise. One of the things that Jennie likes most about DNA events is that it’s not all “shop talk.” She says “the members are so supportive of you and your business, but when you meet at the events it’s more about the friendships you’re creating.”

Jennie’s Business

Jennie is a financial advisor working for Freedom 55. One of the common traits of her clients is that they are all fiercely independent, whether they are single, divorced or married. Jennie started in the financial services industry three years ago after selling her golf business. At the time she had two young children, was recently divorced and knew she needed to do something different. She interviewed other women in the financial industry and that ignited a spark! Jennie loves her new profession and finds one of the most rewarding parts of her job is watching her clients thrive and be successful.

While she’s not someone who boasts about herself, DNA is proud to note Jennie has been named Top New Associate at Freedom 55 (usually won by men)  and she’s been nominated for the Women of Worth award.

Jennie’s Top Three Financial Tips

1)      Get a certified financial advisor. Jennie was quick to explain “it doesn’t have to be me, but everyone should have one.” She also clarified the importance of checking the advisor’s designations.

2)      For women with partners they should have an awareness and involvement in the partnership’s financial decisions. Women should have their own bank accounts and not leave everything in the hands of their partner.

3)      Critical illness insurance. Jennie admits this sounds strange but when we’re young, we don’t think about how a simple change could impact our lives so drastically.

5:30 – 6:00pm  – Meet at St. David’s United Church 1525 Taylor Way , West Vancouver to  – Distribute snowshoes, poles & headlamps
6:00pm – Depart for ski hill following each other
6:30pm – Arrive at upper parking lot
7:00pm – Depart on guided snowshoe
8:00pm – Arrive at turnaround point for Fondue under the stars!
8:30pm – Return journey (time approximate depending on whether we stay up there longer)
9:00pm – Arrive back at the parking lot

Cost (includes all equipment, trail pass and fondue): Members at $55, Non-members at $60
